Bone reconstruction

As we get older, due to chronic periodontitis (inflamed gums) and other gum damaging factors, the bony substance of the jaw bone diminishes. Consequently, the tooth’s root has increasingly less grip in the receding bone – until the tooth falls out. As a result, more people in the UK lose their teeth due to periodontitis than due to tooth decay!

Your jawbone remains strong and firm as long as it is used, i.e. teeth apply pressure to the bone when chewing. When there are not any teeth, this pressure is absent and the bone recedes further and further.

It is possible that the jawbone is so thin that it does not provide the implants with any underpinning. They would jut out too far from the bone even with the smallest possible implant size.

In such cases, your Dentaprime dental surgeon is able to carry out a so-called bone reconstruction. In small areas, e.g. involving only one or two teeth, he or she is often able to carry out both procedures at the same time: reconstruction and fitting the implant. In the case of a larger area, the bone is reconstructed first and implantation is carried out after a period of healing of up to 6 months. The method for the vertical reconstruction of the lateral tooth area of the upper jaw is the sinus lift.

At the Dentaprime dental clinic, we use the patient’s own bone or preferably bone augmentation materials such as BIO-OSS©. This is a sophisticated bio-product, which has proven excellent results and reliable long-term success (15 years).

However, in the case of reconstruction a larger area a transplant of the patient’s own bone may be necessary. Harvesting bone from the body, e.g. from the hipbone, is a complex procedure and may be painful too. Furthermore, there is the danger of harvest defects or infection. For this reason, this so-called iliac crest transplantation is not practiced at the Dentaprime dental clinic.

As you can see, the modern biotechnology used at your Dentaprime dental clinic opens up many possibilities: there is virtually no patient who cannot be provided with firmly fitting teeth at the Dentaprime dental clinic.

Following the diagnosis at the Dentaprime dental clinic, your Dentaprime dental surgeon will explain to you which method and which procedure will be best suited to you. For this purpose, a three-dimensional model of your jawbone is made at the dental clinic, using a state-of-the-art volume tomography.

Nearly every day, the specialists at the Dentaprime dental clinic accomplish a bone reconstruction. This experience guarantees optimal results.

At the low-cost Dentaprime dental clinic, the costs of a bone reconstruction for the area of two adjacent implants are 300 – 400 Euros. (Reference price UK: 800 Euros.)
